We gathered at Good Shepherd Baptist Church for a time of refreshment and deep study in the Word of God for our Midweek Bible Study. There is no better place to be than in the house of the Lord, getting the help and strength we need from heaven.
We continued our study in 2 Timothy chapter 1, focusing specifically on verses 9 through 14. This message serves as a reminder that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not merely a story—it is a life-altering, death-abolishing power that resides in every believer.
Highlights from the Message:
1. A Holy Calling, Not According to Works We looked at the “holy calling” mentioned in verse 9. We are reminded that salvation is not something we earn; it is not a result of our own deeds or efforts. It is according to God’s own purpose and grace, given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began. If it were up to us, we would fail—but because it is up to Him, it is settled forever.
2. The Power of the Gospel The Gospel is the “good news” that changes everything. Just as the end of a war brings immediate relief and change, the Gospel brings sudden, transformative power to the life of a sinner. When the Lord saved us, He didn’t just give us a set of rules; He moved into the “temple” of our bodies and set up residence.
3. The Temple of God The Apostle Paul speaks of our bodies as temples. When a person is truly born again, the Holy Ghost moves in. This “unction” or anointing changes the way we live. If you find yourself struggling to live for God, it is an opportunity to check your heart. True salvation brings a desire to turn away from the old, wicked ways of the world and walk in newness of life. It’s not just a profession of faith; it is a change in direction.
4. Hold Fast the Form of Sound Words In verses 13 and 14, we are given a direct command: Hold fast the form of sound words. We are called to stick to the truth, treasure the salvation we have been given, and keep it by the power of the Holy Ghost who dwells within us.
